SailFuture recruits, licenses, and supports families of every kind to become foster parents to teenagers in need of loving and structured homes.
Specialized therapeutic foster parents provide care to teens with challenging behaviors and work collaboratively with SailFuture’s mental health counselors, case managers, and support team.

Who We Serve
Level I specialized therapeutic foster care is for recipients with a history of abuse or neglect, or delinquent behavior, and who have an emotional disturbance or serious emotional disturbance.
What it Takes to Become A
Foster Parent

Home Life
Your home life should align with the stress and time commitment necessary to meet the complex needs of a child with significant trauma.
Prior understanding of complex behaviors, a strong support system, and flexible employment are critical to a successful home.

Home Study
A home study is a comprehensive assessment of your ability to care for a child. The home study can take up to 4 weeks to complete.
This includes a review of your physical home, your income, criminal and legal background, and medical history, among other elements.

Specialized Training
Specialized Therapeutic Foster Parents participate in 24 hours of parenting training.
Complete 33 hours of specialized therapeutic care training.
Foster Parent Eligibility
Requirements
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Own or lease/rent a 2 bedroom 2 bath home (or larger)
- Complete 24-hours of pre-service training
- Complete 33-hours of specialized therapeutic care training
- Pass a home study
- Pass Level II background screens
SailFuture Support
SailFuture provides critical support to foster parents to ensure that a robust community is present to rally around our kids to meet their needs
Access to respite housing for vacation and to take a break.
Participation in the afternoon and overnight sailing experiences to build a strong relationship with the child in your home
Individual and family counseling for you and the teen in your home.
24/7 access to our case management support team
